UNIVERSITY TEACHING EXPERIENCES:

1972-1976
Part-time tutor, Department of Chinese, Australian National University
Conducted tutorials on classical and modern Chinese language .

1976-1980
Lecturer, Chinese Studies Programme, Murdoch University, Western Australia.
Lectured on Chinese language, Chinese history, Chinese Art and Chinese Philosophy.

1981-1998
Lecturer (1981-1992), Senior Lecturer (1992-1994), Reader (1994-1996), Professor (1996-1998), Department of Chinese, University of Hong Kong.
Major courses taught:
1) ci poetry from the Tang to Qing dynasties for second year students
2) Selected ci writers for third year students.
3) Drama of the Yuan and Ming dynasties for Second year students
4) History of Taoist religion for second year students
5) Special topics on Taoist religion studies for M.A. by course work

1980s-1990s
Part-time lecturer, East Asia University, Macau.
Taught courses on classical Chinese Drama and classical Chinese poetry

1989
Assistant Professor, Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Sorbonne, Paris, France. Lectured on Taoist religion.
 


SUPERVISION OF HIGHER DEGREE STUDENTS:

1981-1998
Supervised about 40 M.Phil students and 10 Ph.D students in various fields of Chinese Studies, including classical Chinese ci poetry, Classical Chinese drama, Taoist religion, Chinese art, modern Chinese literature, modern Chinese drama etc.
 


WORK EXPERIENCES AFTER EARLY RETIREMENT (1998):

1) Gives lessons on Chinese painting and Calligraphy.
2) Pursues academic research on classical Chinese literature and classical Chinese drama.
